Town of Otsego 7:30 P.M. to discuss the drainage
problem in Vasseur's 3RD and 4TH
Additions and farm land just West of the 4TH Addition.
Norman Freske, Chairman, Douglas Linenfelser and Floyd Roden,
Supervisors, Elaine Beatty, Deputy Clerk, and Jerome
Perrault, Clerk were present.
Norman Freske, Chairman called the meeting to order. He
said the purpose of the meeting was to get the opinion of the
people involved as to whether they wished to take care of the
drainage themselves or if they wanted the Township involved
and assess the cost back to the benefiting property owners.
Mr. Freske explained that if the Township is involved the
project would be more expensive as Engineering and Attorney
fees would be involved.
Tiling Contractor Pete Schmitz has done a preliminary
study of the area and has given the Township an estimate for
installing a ten (10) inch tile line to drain the area. To
install a ten (10) inch line to 85TH Street, the estimated
cost would be $6,165.03. If he continued the line beyond
85TH Street, the estimated cost would be $9,711.65.
The Township Engineer has also done a preliminary study
of the drainage for the area. He has recommended installing
a fifteen (15) Inch storm drain commencing at Needham Avenue
and running West on the lot line between Lots 3 and 4,
Vasseur's Fourth Addition, and then North along the West lot
line of lots 1 and 3, Vasseur's Fourth Addition, to 85TH
Street where it would empty into an eighteen (18) inch
culvert under 85TH Street and into a ditch on the North side
of 85TH Street. This would require 780' of 15" line and also
300 feet of 6 inch plastic drain tile that would extend into
the farm land West of Vasseur's Fourth Addition and connect
to the 15 inch line. The cost of this proposal is as
follows:
780' of 15" storm sewer @ $15.00
one man hole -
2 pipe end sections @ $250.00
Turf establishment
300' of 6" drain tile @ $6.00
50' of 15" Culvert @ $10.00

property owners present as to which proposal they were in
favor of:

2 - did not want to do anything

The Board advised the residents that another alternative
would be to dig up that existing tile line where it is
thought to be plugged and attempt to restore it to a usable
condition.
The residents were requested to be present at another
meeting at 7:30 P.M. on June 5, 1989 to further consider the
project.
