10-11-1989 Joint Meeting MinutesState of Minnesota The Town Board of the Town of Otsego
County of Wright held a joint meeting with the
Town of Otsego Albertville City Council this 11TH
day of October, 1989 at 7:00 PM in
the City Hall at Albertville, Minnesota. Mayor Gary
Schwenzfeier,Councilmen Don Cornelius and Bob Braun,
Administrator Maureen Andrews were present to represent the
City of Albertville. Chairman Norman Freske, Supervisor
Douglas Lindenfelser and Floyd Roden, Deputy Clerk Elaine
Beatty and Clerk Jerome Perrault were present to represent
the Town of Otsego.
The meeting was called to discuss the 1990 Fire
Protection Contract with City of Albertville and the amount
of dues the Township will be required to pay in 1990.
Otsego's Contract dues for 1989 are $9,913.39 as compared to
a total Albertville Fire Department budget of $30,228.68 for
1989. The Otsego per unit assessment for the Albertville
Fire Department protection area was $23.00 for 1989.
Administrator Maureen Andrews had suggested a per unit fee of
$50.00 for 1990, but explained they were still in the
budgeting process for 1990 and this was not final. Chairman
Norman Freske said that Albertville should not be putting a
per unit fee on the Fire Contract dues, just a lump sum, and
it was up to Otsego Township to determine the per unit
assessment in order to arrive at the lump sum contract dues.
The Otsego Board felt that an increase from $23.00 to $50.00
in one year was too much and not justified.
Mayor Gary Schwenzfeier explained that Albertville needs
to plan ahead for a new Pumper Truck and a new Fire Hall.
The Otsego Board explained that the equipment and Fire Hall
would belong to the City and Otsego would not own any part of
it. Maureen Andrews said that in 1988, 51% of Albertville
Fire Department calls were to Otsego Township and this did
not include Freeway calls, these are a seperate category.
The Albertville Council Members said that $50.00 a year was
just a little under $1.00 per week and that was not too much
to pay for fire protection. Most Cities contribute more
towards Fireman's Relief (Retirement) than Albertville does
and pay their fireman for fire calls which Albertville does
not. The joint meeting was adjourned at this time and
discussions will be continued in the future.
The Otsego Town Board then continued their part of the
meeting at the Town Hall. The Otsego Board needs to Certify
their 1990 per unit Fire Department assessments to the County
Auditor by October 13, 1989.
Motion by Douglas Lindenfelser to set the 1990 per unit
assessment at $30.00 for the Albertville Fire Department
service area. Seconded by Floyd Roden, all Board Members
voted in favor of the motion.
Motion by Floyd Roden to hold the Town Board Meeting
scheduled for November 6, 1989 on Monday, October 30, 1989.
Seconded by Norman Freske, all Board Members voted in favor
of the motion.
On motion the meetina adiourned.
