11-21-1991 Truth in Taxation MinutesSTATE OF MINNESOTA The City Council of the City of
COUNTY OF WRIGHT Otsego held a Truth in Taxation
CITY OF OTSEGO Hearing this 21st day of November
1991 at 7:00PM. Norman F Freske,
Mayor, Doug Lindenfelser, Floyd Roden and Ron Black Council
Members, Jerome Perrault, Clerk, Elaine Beatty Deputy
Clerk/Zoning Adm. and Judy Hudson, Secretary, were present.
The Hearing was called to order by Mayor Norman F
Freske.
Mr Freske explained to those in attendance that the City
levy for 1991 had increased 8.1%, however the valuation had
increased from 81,308,924 to 81,415,322. While we do not
have definite figures on this, the increase in valuation
should offset the levy increase and result in no increase in
City taxes. The school levies are increasing and school
taxes will be higher, but the City Council has no control
over this. Ron Black commented that with all the schools
having increased enrollments and all building new schools,
there is not much chance of school taxes going down. He did
say that the Elk River District did not expect an increase in
Bonded Indebtedness with the new school they are building
because some of the older bond issues have been paid off.
One resident asked if the City Council expects continued
residential and commercial growth in the City.
The Council advised him that they expected growth to
continue, however that is not a sure thing.
Guy Row asked if the law was still in effect whereby you
were entitled to a refund if your taxes increased more than
10%. He was advised to contact Lois Erlandson in the County
Auditor's office to find out if the law was still in effect.
On motion the Hearing adjourned.
