AGENDA ITEM DETAILS RECOMMENDATION: City staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution appointing election judges. ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED? No No BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION: Minnesota Statute §204B.21, Subd. 2 outlines that election judges for precincts in a municipality be appointed by the governing body of the municipality, and that the appointments shall be made at least twenty-five (25) days before the election at which the election judges will serve. Having this Resolution approved gives City staff the ability to use some of these election judges for the August 9, 2022 Primary Election and November 8, 2022 General Election. BUDGET INFORMATION FUNDING: BUDGETED: General Fund – Elections Department 101-41410-104 Yes 1 CITY OF OTSEGO COUNTY OF WRIGHT STATE OF MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO: 2022-62 APPOINTING ELECTION JUDGES FOR THE 2022 ELECTIONS WHEREAS, the regulations regarding elections judges are set by Minnesota Statute §204B.21, Subd. 2; and WHEREAS, election judges for precincts in a municipality shall be appointed by the governing body of the municipality; and WHEREAS, election judges shall be appointed at least twenty-fire (25) days before the election at which the election judge will serve; and WHEREAS, the Primary Elections are to be held on August 9, 2022; and WHEREAS, the General Elections are to be held on November 8, 2022; and WHEREAS, Election Judges are required to perform the election duties for these elections; and WHEREAS, Election Judges are to attend the necessary training provided by Wright County and the City of Otsego in order to hold the position of Election Judge. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OTSEGO, MINNESOTA: 1. The following persons are appointed as Election Judges at the discretion of the City Clerk from the following list should they meet the requirements for an election judge and should they choose to serve. That Election Judges be paid $14.00 per hour and that Head Election Judges / Absentee Ballot Board Judges / Direct Ballot Judges be paid $16.00 per hour. 3. That the City Clerk has the authority for the appointment of additional election judges within the twenty-five (25) days before the election if additional election judges will be required. 4. The following City staff are appointed as Election Judges at the discretion of the City Clerk from the following list should they meet the requirements for an election judge and should they choose to serve.
