10-27-08CITY OF OTSEGO
CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP
October 27, 2008
5:30 p.m.
Roll Call: Otsego City Council: Mayor Jessica
Stockamp. Councilmembers Dan Scharber, Mark
Thorsted, Tom Darkenwald and Vern Heidner.
City Staff: City Administrator Michael Robertson
and City Clerk Judy Hudson.
Sheriff Gary Miller. Deputies Lt. Dan Anselman and
Sgt. Roy "Butch" Darsow.
Mayor Stockamp called the workshop to order at 5:30
p.m.
Sheriff Miller reviewed the past year of crime in
Otsego. He said crime is down significantly in
almost every category. He noted that DWI's are down
10-20%, and that thefts, larceny, meth and similar
crimes have also decreased. He said that crime is
down in general in Wright County but that Otsego's
crime rate is low enough that most of the cities in
Wright County would envy it. He suspects that some
of the decrease in crime is caused by the slow
economy.
Council discussed the current work hours with
Sheriff Miller and the deputies. The consensus was
that the current patrol hours are working well and
that there is no reason to change them.
Administrator Robertson asked for the morning
officer to help with crowd control at the start of
the election on Tuesday and the Sheriff said he
would. When asked who they should send any
addresses of vacant homes to the Sheriff said they
should be addressed to Sgt. Darsow.
Council thanked the Sheriff and the deputies for
doing a good job and asked that this thanks be
passed on to the officers who work in Otsego. With
no other business, Mayor Stockamp adjourned the
meeting at 6:05 p.m.
