Parks & Rec ManagerParks and Recreation Manager City of Otsego Title of Class: Parks and Recreation Manager Revised Date: FLSA: Exempt DESCRIPTION OF WORK General Statement of Duties: Primary objective of this position is to manage and direct the city's park maintenance operations and plan and implement best practices to obtain effective and efficient service levels. This includes but is not limited to parks and ground maintenance The development and implementation of the city parks and recreation program for youth, adults and seniors. Supervision Received: Works under the administrative supervision of the City Administrator. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to the following:) ❖ Being responsible for the planning, development, administration and evaluation of recreation programs for youth, adults and seniors; youth and adult athletic leagues, special events, instructional programs and camps ❖ Design, coordinate and evaluate recreation programs ❖ Coordinate and evaluate various recreation programs with other agencies to establish cooperative efforts and facilitate services ❖ Research new techniques, procedures and standards in park and recreation program activities •S Provide effective customer service in a courteous and helpful manner ❖ Ensure program information and league standings are kept up to date and publicized as necessary ❖ Process forfeit, rainout and ejection notices and monitor the fees and team records that are affected •S Keep teams updated on schedule changes, rule interpretations, etc. ❖ Provide on-site supervision, acts a chaperone on field trips ❖ Coordinate and schedule use of parks and ball fields with the public and youth associations ❖ Reserve facilities for programs and activities ❖ Market recreation programs ❖ Serve as liaison to the Park and Recreation Commission, attend City Council meetings and other commission meetings when appropriate ❖ Recommend park improvements and assist with park planning and development ❖ Select and supervise part time seasonal recreation staff Parks and Recreation Manager City of Otsego O• Coordinate recreation volunteers ❖ Enhance use of current park and recreation facilities ❖ Partner with schools and other organizations for facility use and programming ❖ Prepare and manage recreation budget ❖ Define and recommend fees for activities, events, and rental facilities ❖ Serve as lead staff person on City event committees ❖ Work various programs and events as needed ❖ Seek and apply for grants for parks and recreation activities ❖ Make written and verbal reports and recommendations to the Council and City Commissions ❖ Coordinate with the public works department for maintenance of fields and park facilities DESIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDES: 1. Bachelor's degree in recreation or a closely related field and two years of recreation programming experience; or, 2. High school diploma (or equivalent) and five years of recent experience in recreation programming for a local government entity; and 3. Valid Minnesota driver's license 4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and recreation software 5. Experience working with the public both in terms of facilitating events and making formal presentations. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDES: 1. Supervisory experience 2. Education or experience in government management and administration 3.
