AGENDA ITEM DETAILS
RECOMMENDATION:
City staff recommends the City Council authorize preparation of plans and specifications.
ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED?
No No
BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
City staff is recommending adding turn lanes at the intersection of 70th Street (CSAH 38) and Martin Farms
Avenue for improved safety. The additional pavement and adjusted curb line and bike trail will provide
space for dedicated left and right turn movements off CSAH 38 and into the housing developments north
and south of CSAH 38.
The City will provide plans and specs and get a quote from contractors for work to be completed prior to
the County completing a mill, overlay and restriping. The restriping, along with the additional width, will
result in a much safer intersection on this higher speed, higher volume County Highway. It will provide
space for turning vehicles to slow down and/or stop and wait for conflicting traffic to pass without
impeding the through traffic of CSAH 38. The engineer’s construction estimate is $65,046.88.
With approval to complete the plans and specification, the City Engineer will complete the design, obtain
quotes, and the City Council will likely consider award of the project in late February or early March.
