AGENDA ITEM DETAILS
RECOMMENDATION:
City staff is recommending that the City Council approve the hiring for a Park Maintenance I position.
ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED?
No No
The 2023 Parks Maintenance budget included the addition of a Park Maintenance I position, due to the
increase in proactive maintenance required to maintain the parks, trails, and roundabouts. Staff posted the
opening on February 14 and the application period closed March 1. A total of 29 applications were received
and 5 candidates were selected for interviews.
City Staff is recommending the hiring of Craig Reichel. Craig has worked for the City Streets Department for
nearly 2 years. Craig has accepted the offer both verbally and in writing. Craig has a vast knowledge of
parks and recreation through his experience with the Elk River Parks and Recreation department and time
spent working for the Streets Department in Otsego. He has successfully passed the required background,
driver’s license check, and drug screening.
Staff is recommending that he be hired at a Pay Grade 5, Step 3 which is $25.60 per hour. It is anticipated
that Craig would start with the Parks and Recreation Department, effective April 24, 2023, which will allow
for a recruitment effort to fill the vacancy in the Streets Department.
