RESOLUTION NO: 2023-39
ESTABLISHING JUNETEENTH AS A CITY HOLIDAY
WHEREAS, Juneteenth has been recognized as a new federal holiday celebrating freedom from slavery
in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota outlines holidays in State Statute; and effective for 2023, Minnesota
has officially recognized Juneteenth as a holiday; and
WHEREAS, the City of Otsego will also establish Juneteenth as a City holiday to commemorate the end
of slavery in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the date and rules of observance of Juneteenth shall be as specified in Minnesota Statute
§645.44; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OTSEGO, MINNESOTA:
1. That the City establishes Juneteenth (June 19) as a City Holiday with the closure of City offices.
2. That policy changes to Section 6-2 of the City's Personnel Policy will be amended to reflect the
establishment of the Juneteenth holiday.
