AGENDA ITEM DETAILS
RECOMMENDATION:
City staff is recommending the City Council approve a fleet vehicle purchase.
ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED?
No No
BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The 2024 Fleet Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes the replacement of a 2002 Sterling L7500 single-axle plow truck.
The truck is equipped with a reversible highway plow, wing, sander, and pre-wetting equipment. The truck was used
when it was purchased by the City in January of 2010. Staff is recommending that the City replace the truck with a single-
axle chassis equipped with a stainless-steel elliptical body, sander, front plow, rear wing, and an underbody scraper plow.
Staff have requested State contract pricing from Nuss Truck & Equipment for the Mack truck chassis, which is consistent
with all new plow truck fleet vehicles. The quoted price for the truck chassis was in the amount of $142,651.91.
Staff also requested State contract pricing from Towmaster Truck Equipment for the buildout of the stainless-steel
elliptical body, sander, front plow, rear wing, and an underbody scraper plow. The quoted price for the buildout was in
the amount of $169,861.00. This equipment would also be consistent with all new plow truck fleet vehicles and the
buildouts have been completed satisfactory and operate efficiently.
The total purchase price for the fleet vehicle is $312,512.91. This total purchase price will be reflected in the 2024 CIP as
the delivery of the vehicle is anticipated in the late fall of 2024.
The 2002 Sterling will be further evaluated by City staff to determine whether a trade-in allowance or auction sale would
provide the City with the greatest return on disposing of the vehicle.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at their July 19, 2023, meeting and provided
direction for City Council consideration of approval.
