AGENDA ITEM DETAILS RECOMMENDATION: City staff is recommending the City Council approve a fleet vehicle repair. ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED? No No BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION: In 2010 the City purchased a JetVac Combo Unit. The equipment has provided useful life and strong return of investment for a variety of Public Works cleaning and hydro excavation activities. Replacement is currently scheduled in 2026 however the truck needs a debris body replacement. Over the past year, debris body inspections have noted metal degradation and now is experiencing pinhole daylighting. This equipment component provides necessary tank volumes and pressures to support vacuum operations for 75% of work expectations. A replacement estimate, of $81,041.33 was provided by the equipment representative with a 30-day timeline for repair. Conducting this maintenance extends the useful life and bridges replacement funding availability. For comparison, a new combo truck with 2024 pricing with recommended outfitting was quoted at $606,000, with a build exceeding 12 months. A new unit’s proficiency is defined at a 12-year replacement schedule based on current use practices with added evaluations to gauge potential life extension and resale benefits. Used units have been reviewed; most are near or exceed 10 years and would not be recommended. Contract services for the equipment are $280/hr. and would expect an annual cost of approximately $55,000/yr. Staff is recommending the current Combo Unit move forward with a debris body replacement to extend its replacement into late 2027 providing an additional 4 service years. The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at their April 17, 2024, meeting and provided direction for City Council consideration of approval.
