AGENDA ITEM DETAILS RECOMMENDATION: City staff is recommending that the City Council approve the hiring of a Utility Operator position. ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED? No No BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION: A vacancy in the Utility Department has led to a recruitment to fill a Utility Operator position. Staff began recruitment with an application period closing December 12. Nine applications were received with four candidates selected for an interview. City Staff recommends the hiring of Justin Mielke for the Utility Operator position. Justin will support all Utility Operations with a specialized focus within the Water Collection and Distribution division. Justin has successfully completed a background check and preemployment screening required for this position. Staff is recommending Justin be hired at Pay Grade 5, Step 3. It is anticipated Justin would start employment on January 21.
