BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
At the council workshop on September 8th, council reviewed the street light additions and replacement
suggestions within a small area of Mississippi Shores. Council approved the addition of three new street
lights along streets having electrical utility upgrades. Council requested staff review the costs of some
adding additional street lights at nearby intersections. Elk River Municipal Utilities reviewed the
additional requests and informed staff that that area is planned for an upgrade of the electrical utility
next year and they would prefer to add street lights at that time. I requested information regarding the
scope of the upgrade and extent of the area so the City of Otsego can budget for any new street lights
they may deem necessary next year as part of this upgrade. They stated once there design is done they
will send it to me. The other question the Council requested information regarding was with the switch
from High Pressure Sodium lights to LED lights does the City receive any type of rebate. The answer was
yes, each light depending on the existing and proposed wattage will receive between $65 and $100 in
rebate. A check will be sent to the City after installation.
