Notes from July 8Public Safety Commission Meeting July 8, 2025, Prairie Center Present: Commission Chair David; Commissioners Loren Green, Judith Sibert; Mayor Jessica Stockamp, Council members Ryan, Tina, Corey; Chief Daryl Rausch. Sgt Jason Oltmanns, Allina Rep Brian N., Medical Director Nick Maleska. Public: Mark Anderson, Randy Korpela, Larry Hudson, Casey Kottke, Tim Neutgens. An informal meeting was held as a quorum was not present. Meeting opened at 6:30pm. Chairman Greeman relayed the sad news that John Braun had passed away. Pledge of Allegiance. Mark and Randy from 80th street requested a reconsideration of the speed limit near their homes and to limit the road to 4 tons. Discussion ensued. Mayor Stockamp said she had already started a group to look at this including city engineers. Tim and his wife live on 85th St and are concerned with electric bicycles on the bike paths going at high rates of speed. Discussion ensued on vehicle definitions and city ordinances. Many cities are struggling with this. They also asked to have the speed limit reconsidered in front of their house. They feel it is too high. Mayor Stockamp will have the same group mentioned above look into it. Casey Kottke asked if the City could have an ordinance that would allow golf carts to operate on the shoulder of City roads. He is heading a petition for this. Discussion ensued. At this time there is not a good solution as it would lead to other problems. Brian introduced Alina’s new medical director. He has been there about a year and covers their western region which includes Wright County. Medical directors grant paramedics authorization to practice, oversee QA/QI programs, education and occasionally go on calls. Brian reported that response times went up in June. They had some staffing issues with medical leave and vacations. They anticipate times to go back down. Volume was upon 3% from the previous quarter. No changes on the types of calls. The medical director said that nation wide there is less emphasis on getting there fast. It is important but stats show that for most calls an extra couple of minutes is not worth the risk of speeding vehicles to the community. Chief Rausch reported that the footings and utilities are in. The wall panels are coming shortly. Continuity training for City employees has begun. Sgt. Oltmanns reported on protests that have been taking place on a regular basis. He said there is good communication with protest organizers and there have not been many issues. There have been some complaints about the honking and parking. The next meeting will be on 8/12/25. Notes taken by Judy Sibert
