Maintenance Workers for snow removal operations.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Snow removal operations for the City of Otsego currently require seven large main route trucks and five
cul-de-sac routes. To maintain that level of service, in addition to Streets, Parks and Utility staff, the
department needs to add three additional on-call operators. Mark Sauter plowed for the department
last winter and did a terrific job. He expressed interest in helping again this winter and submitted an
application. Staff only received three applications in response to the advertisements of the seasonal
position. The advertisements were placed on the City's website and also on the League of MN Cities
website. Staff interviewed the three candidates for the two additional open positions. Thomas
Alberico and Dave Dehne both have extensive snow removal experience and were the two best qualified
candidates for this position. Background and driver's license checks have been completed. All three
candidates have completed the mandatory pre-employment drug testing and we are awaiting the
results for two of the candidates. The Public Works Subcommittee was given this information at its Oct.
23`d meeting and recommended to proceed with the hiring process. Upon council approval, staff will
continue the training process in preparation for the winter season.
