Something new for the city of Otsego this year is that all the properties are in the
computer now. I spent six weeks this summer at the court house helping get this done.
This means that the calculations are all made by the computer. As your assessor I still have
to determine the land values and the grade, condition, and size of the buildings, also if
there is basement finish, a fireplace, deck etc. The only work it will save me is the
calculations, as they are done by the computer. For right now I will have more work as we
have to keep 2 sets of books, the old books and the new computer print outs. There may
be some value increases or even some value decreases as the computer doesn't miss
anything. I found that some of my square footages were of, especially on buildings with a
lot of nooks and crannies. I hope this will help explain some of the changes that took place
in 1999.

Farm land values per acre are as follows: 20 acres or less $4500 per acre
20 to 39 acres $3360 per acre
40 or more acres $2680 per acre
The green acre values did not change.
All residential lots were put on at $30,000 for the first acre and $4500 per acre for
each additional acre. This may seem like a big increase but with the sales ratio at about
83% it had to be done or the state would put an increase on across the board. We are
required to be between 90% and 105% by the state.
Thank You
