ITEM 5.3ITEM 5.3 OtCITY OF Se 0 MINNE50TA TO: Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Ross Demant, Parks and Recreation Manager DATE: April 16th, 2015 RE: Dog Park Amenities Background: Included in the approved 2015 Capital Improvement Plan and the Prairie Center Master Plan is the installation of a dog park at Prairie Park. The dog park is set to be installed in the southeast end of the park adjacent to the south parking lot at Prairie Center. Along with the installation of the park, site amenities are also included in the budget. Staff has included options for amenities, along with these amenities the City is going to install benches and picnic tables which have already been purchased. Originally when the dog park was planned there was no specific area for designed for small dogs. Since information about the installation of the dog park has been announced there have been requests for a small dog area in the park. Staff have checked with the contractor who will be installing the fencing for the park, he estimated that a "U" shaped area could be adding with a maintenance after the installation is complete. The cost for adding a small dog area could be done within the budget set aside for the site amenities. If this option was chosen, Staff would still be able to add benches and picnic tables since these items have already been purchased. Conclusion: Staff is requesting that the Parks and Recreation Commission review the material included in this memo and attachments and provide a recommendation to City Council on how to proceed with site amenities for the Prairie Park Dog Park.
