RECOMMENDATION:
Recommend the hiring of Reese Carstens as a part time temporary Utility Assistant with rate of pay
$10/hour.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
A Utility Assistant part time temporary position was recommended at the April 22nd Public Works
Subcommittee and approved at the April 27th Council meeting. The position offers support to Utility Staff
fully incorporating their role in spring and fall hydrant maintenance, increased solids processing and
monitoring, job hazard analysis and Safety Coordinator responsibilities.
A budget allotment of $4400 provides Utility Staffing assistance 18 hours per week beginning June 15 for
20 weeks with additional time determined in October for fall hydrant maintenance.
Reese Carstens has completed a wastewater internship April 13th- 24th this year at the West WWTF with
interest in the position. He has completed an application and successfully passed the background check.
Drug testing will be conducted in May and employment after completion of school in June.
Responsibilities will include sanitary sewer repairs, hydrant maintenance, general operator assistance
and janitorial.
