BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Each year, the City contracts for the application of dust control chemicals to the most heavily traveled
gravel roads in the city. In addition to that, sections are also treated upon request from residents if they
agree to pay for that portion of the application. For 2015, we are recommending full-length application
to MacaIIister Ave., 83`d and 60th Street funded from Street Department funds. We have also received
three private requests which have been paid in full. 500' sections of 62nd St., 96th St. and Kadler Ave. are
being recommended for application. The Park and Recreation Department has also requested to have
approximately 1300 lineal feet of dust control applied to the new soccer field parking lot which has also
been accounted for in this year's total amounts.
The 2015 dust control project is estimated at 28,743 lineal feet of gravel roads/parking lot to be treated
with 15,377 gallons of chemical. I have solicited quotes for the project from Envirotech Services Inc. and
Central MN Dust Control with comparative applications/rates. Envirotech submitted a quote of
$.99/gallon versus Central MN Dust Control's quote of $1.02/gallon. Total estimated costs were
$15,223.25 and $15,684.54 respectively.
Staff is recommending that we use Envirotech Services Inc. for the 2015 dust control application at an
estimated cost of $15,223.25. The City has used Envirotech Services Inc. in the past and they have
provided excellent services. The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information via
email and they have recommended that we use Envirotech Services Inc. to apply the 2015 dust control
application.
