BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Earlier this spring, staff was notified by a resident of a potential collapsed culvert under Quilley Ave. just
north of CSAH 36. City Engineer Wagner and I inspected the culverts and found that one of the two
steel culverts under this street had collapsed and created a significant bump in the traveled portion of
the street. The second of the two culverts is functioning at this point but is in very poor shape.
City Engineer Wagner and I have consulted and agree that the two culverts need to be replaced at this
time. We are recommending that the old steel culverts are replaced with 24" concrete pipe. Staff feels
that it would be in the best interest of the City to contract out the repair to a contractor that deals with
these types of repairs on a regular basis.
Staff has requested quotes from Dave Perkins Contracting Inc. and Northdale Construction Company Inc.
and received quotes of $29,639 and $45,578.35 respectively. Staff is recommending that we have Dave
Perkins Contracting Inc. perform the work at the quoted price. They have performed storm water work
for the City in the past and done a great job. Funding for the project will come from the 220 Storm
Water Out -of -District Fund. The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information and
recommended that it be placed consent agenda for approval.
