Recommend approval of salary survey cities as identified by Springsted, Inc.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Classification and Compensation Study currently underway includes completing a salary survey. The
survey will provide data on market pay rates in comparable cities. The Council requested review and
approval of the selected cities prior to beginning the survey.
Attached is the list of survey cities selected by Ann Antonsen. According to Ms. Antonsen, the number of
cities selected is slightly larger than standard. The surrounding cities are included even though some are
smaller and, therefore, may not typically be included. The benefit is that the larger pool may provide
more accurate data than a smaller survey set and will provide enough data in the event that not all cities
respond. As you can see, the average population of the survey cities is comparable to Otsego's
population. The neighboring cities are included along with both larger and smaller population suburbs,
mainly on the outer ring of the metro area.
