08-11-04 PROTSEGO PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES August 11, 2004 - 7:00 PM 1. Call to order. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Roll Call: Park & Recreation Commission: Chair Pauline Nelson, Mark Thorsted, Kathy Roberts, Rose Cassady, and Peter Torresani. Mike Brumm arrived at 7:05 p.m. Absent: Jessica Stockamp, Aaron Stritesky, and Terry Long. Councilmembers: CM Scharber. Staff: City Administrator Mike Robertson and City Planner Dan Licht. Agenda A-oproval - Commissioner Cassady, seconded by Commissioner Torresani, moved to approve the agenda. Carried 5-0. A-oproval of July 14, 2004 Minutes - Commissioner Torresani, seconded by Commissioner Thorsted, moved to approve the July 14, 2004 minutes as amended. Carried 4-0, Chair Nelson abstained. Commissioner Brumm. arrived. Park Planning - City Planner Licht reviewed the Otsego Park Plan. He described the national standards for parks and recreation and the City's standards for park dedication. The City's park plan standard is to have a park within a mile of most residents when fully developed. Commissioners suggested that an additional neighborhood park be added in the vicinity of 85 th Street and Odean Avenue. Commissioners discussed the future needs for community centers, recreation activities, meeting rooms, new park land, and new parks. Recreation Programming - Commissioners discussed planning for next year's recreation events and asked Administrator Robertson to ask Carol McNaughten-Commers of Community Education to attend the next meeting. Commissioner Torresani said he would get a quote for digging out the ice rink area so that the City could attempt to fill it with clay for a better seal. Fall Recreation Event - Commissioners discussed having pumpkin painting and horse rides. Commissioner Cassady will reserve the pumpkins and book the horsey rides. Construction UiDdate - Administrator Robertson updated the Commissioners on Lily Pond Park construction and said that he had not received any prices from the contractor for the additional proposed improvements. City U-odate - CM Scharber updated Commissioners on Council actions. Adjournment - Commissioner Cassady, seconded by Commissioner Torresani, moved to adjourn at 9:20 p.m. Carried 6-0.
