MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 8, 2004 - 7:00 PM
1. Call to order. The meeting was called to order at 7:00
p.m.
Roll Call:
Park & Recreation Commission: Chair Pauline Nelson, Jessica
Stockamp, Mike Brumm, Kathy Roberts, Rose Cassady, and Peter
Torresani. Mark Thorsted arrived at 7:15 p.m.
Absent: Aaron Stritesky and Terry Long.
Staff: City Administrator Mike Robertson.
Agenda AiDiproval - Commissioner Torresani, seconded by
Commissioner Brumm, moved to approve the agenda. Carried 5-
0.
Aip-oroval of August 11, 2004 minutes - Commissioner Cassady,
seconded by Commissioner Torresani, moved to approve the
August 11, 2004 minutes as amended. Carried 5-0.
Commissioner Thorsted arrived.
Recreation Programming - Commissioners reviewed this year's
recreation events with Carol McNaughten-Commers of Community
Education. Consensus was the only change needed was to
highlight the targeted age groups for each event.
Commissioners agreed that park activities and tennis worked
well and would continue next year. Administrator Robertson
stated the City Council was very happy with the Commission
and the events.
Commissioners agreed for 2005 to add T -ball and toss ball
using the Prairie Park ball fields with Community Education
as the organizer. Carol said that they had used two morning
sessions in Rogers this summer and that they had worked out
well. Lincoln of the Rogers Area Baseball Association will
be invited to the next meeting to discuss organizing Little
League on Otsego's fields.
Commissioners also asked to Carol to investigate adding
gymnastics, open gym, volleyball, and skateboarding for next
year. Carol said she had some leads on possible
instructors.
Construction Update - Administrator Robertson updated the
Commissioners on Lily Pond Park construction. Commissioners
wondered whether security lights should be added to Prairie
Park by the picnic shelter. Administrator Robertson said he
would bring this to the City Council.
Fall Recreation Event - Commissioners decided the event will
consist of a pumpkin give away and horse rides. The event
will be held at the Prairie Park picnic shelter on Saturday,
October 23 rd . The time is changed to 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Santa Day - Santa Day was set for Saturday, December 11,
2004 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Commissioner Stockamp
said Aaron Stritesky was willing to be Santa again.
Commission consensus was to purchase a second Santa suit and
to seek additional volunteers to be Santa so as to not over
work Aaron.
Lily Pond Park Grand Opening - The Commission's consensus
was to meet at the park for a Grand Opening picture at the
start of the next regular meeting, Wednesday, October 13'
at 6:45 p.m. Commissioners directed Administrator Robertson
to invite the City Council to attend.
Adjournment - Commissioner Cassady, seconded by Commissioner
Brumm, moved to adjourn at 9:21 p.m. Carried 6-0.
