MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 81 2004 - 7:00 PM
1. Call to order. The meeting was called to order at 7:00
p.m.
Roll Call:
Park & Recreation Commission: Chair Pauline Nelson, Peter
Torresani, Aaron Stritesky, Kathy Roberts, Rose Cassady, and
Mike Brumm. Jessica Stockamp arrived at 7:13 p.m.
Absent: Mark Thorsted and Terry Long.
Staff: City Administrator Mike Robertson.
Agenda Approval - Commissioner Stritesky, seconded by
Commissioner Cassady, moved to approve the agenda. Carried
6-0.
Approval of November 10, 2004 Minutes - Commissioner
Stritesky, seconded by Commissioner Brumm, moved to approve
the November 10, 2004 minutes as amended. Carried 6-0.
Recreation Planning - Carol McNaughten-Commers of Community
Education was present to review the past year and plan for
2005. She reviewed attendance numbers, costs, and revenues
from each of the events in 2004. She estimated the final
cost to Otsego for 2004 recreation events scheduled by
Community Education would be about $7,000.
Carol reviewed the proposed events and budget for 2005 The
preliminary budget shows estimated costs for Community
Education organized events would be about $20,000 and
estimated revenues are about $8,000 for an estimated cost of
$12,000.
After discussion, the Park & Recreation Commission agreed on
the following schedule for the Prairie Park ball fields. T -
ball and toss ball would have the fields Tuesday and
Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Carol will also
schedule some T -ball events for weekday mornings as that
worked well in Rogers last summer. The season will last for
five weeks starting in mid-June.
Administrator Robertson will talk to Lincoln Caldon of
Little League and let him know they can have the Prairie
Park ball fields for all of Monday and Wednesday nights and
they can also use them Tuesday and Thursday nights after
8:00 p.m. If any other organizations wish to use the fields
they will be directed to Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Commissioners also agreed they would have Open Gym at Otsego
Elementary School. This will start in January and run for
10 Sundays between 1:00-2:30 p.m. Gymnastics will also be
held with Winter and Spring sessions at Otsego Elementary.
Carol said that gymnastics was very popular in 2004.
Commissioners also discussed holding classes for
skateboarding and volleyball. Carol said she had a lead on
possible skateboard instructors. There was considerable
discussion over charging for the skateboard class. It was
agreed that there would be a charge for the skateboard
class, that only those people who paid would be able to use
the skateboard park during that time, that Community Ed
would send a person along with the skateboard instructor to
assist with crowd control, and that the City would post when
the skateboard instruction would occur.
Commissioners discussed doing additional recreational
activities next fall. Consensus was that this item would be
discussed at future meetings.
City Update - Administrator Robertson updated the
Commissioners on recent City happenings.
Santa Day - Commissioners discussed the final details for
Santa Day.
Adlournment - Commissioner Stritesky, seconded by
Commissioner Cassady, moved to adjourn at 8:50 p.m. Carried
7-0.
