RE: Crow River Trail Master Plan
Background:
The Parks and Recreation Commission discussed the Crow River Masterplan at their
November 2015 Commission meeting. The goal of the Crow River Regional Trail is to
fill a gap in the recreation and transportation system with a safe, accessible and
enjoyable off-road trail option. The CRRT will expand access to the Crow River -
providing multiple opportunities to 'touch the river.' The CRRT's proposed route
stretches from Rockford to Dayton through the cities of Greenfield, Hanover and Rogers
- with potential to incorporate Wright County into the recommended route. The Crow
River Regional Trail's 20 -mile route aims to provide an exclusively off-road trail
experience, which in turn provides a safe and enjoyable recreation and non -motorized
transportation option for users regardless of ability.
During the discussion, commissioners discussed adding information onto the City's
website about the masterplan. Staff have been informed that the information about the
trail was on the website prior to the November's Commission meeting.
Staff have also met with representatives from Wright County and Three Rivers Park
District to discuss possible placement of the trial in Otsego. Staff suggested crossing
the Crow River on the south end of the current Lahn property which is expected to be
developed with single family homes in the future. Staff further suggested that the trail
continue north along County Road 36 on the east side and connecting with County
Road 42 and east into Dayton. Staff have included maps of proposed trail locations and
survey results with this memo.
