PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 13, 2005 7:00 PM
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at
7:OOPM.
Roll Call: Commissioners: Chair Aaron Stritesky,
Commissioners Virginia Duran, Peter Torresani,
Kathy Roberts, Mike Brumm, Rose Cassady and Russ
Langer. Councilmembers: Jessica Stockamp and Mark
Thorsted. Staff: City Administrator Mike
Robertson.
Agenda Approval: Commissioner Cassady asked to add
discussion of Otsego View. Administrator Robertson
asked to add Lily Pond Park boundary discussion.
Commissioner Stritesky, seconded by Commissioner
Torresani, moved to approve the agenda as amended.
Carried 7-0.
Approval of minutes from March 91, 2005 meeting:
Commissioner Torresani, seconded by Commissioner
Brumm, moved to approve the minutes as presented.
Carried 7-0.
Review of Planned Sununer Recreation: Carol
McNaughten-Commers of Community Education was
present and reviewed the scheduled events and times
for summer recreation. Commissioners also
discussed fall recreation proposals. Commissioners
discussed adding volleyball and "Little Sportsters"
to the next summer's events. Administrator
Robertson said he would inventory the City's T -ball
equipment and provide the list to Community
Education. He stated he would also check with
Lincoln Caldon of Rogers Baseball Association to
make certain they are providing bases, bats, etc.
Prairie Park Update: Robertson reviewed the
Council's decisions on what items to add to the
park. Commissioners recommended that Unloading
Only signs be obtained for the traffic circle and
that timers be added to the proposed lights.
Lily Pond Park boundary issue: Co=issioners
discussed the issue of perception of a safe
boundary. They were unanimous to recommend to the
Council that trees be removed for safety reasons
rather than construct a fence.
Park Ordinance: Commissioners discussed the
proposed park ordinance. Consensus was that the
park should open at 5:00 a.m. and close at 11:00
p.m., that liquor should be allowed because no
problems have been demonstrated, and that glass
containers should not be allowed. Commissioners
asked to see the ordinance again after the Council
had reviewed it.
Review of Easter Egg Hunt: There were 1060
attendees at the event and it was a big success.
Everyone agreed the new egg idea had worked great.
For next year the thought was to have more event
explanation and crowd control signs, along with
ropes to direct people, to start the pictures at
the same time as the egg hunt, and to have more
eggs.
Otsego View: Commissioner Cassady volunteered to
be the contact with the Otsego View for park
updates and other communications.
City Update: Councilmembers Stockamp and Thorsted
updated Commissioners on recent Council actions.
Adjournment: Commissioner Duran, seconded by
Commissioner Langer, moved to adjourn at 9:50 p.m.
