RE: Departmental Goals
Background:
The Parks and Recreation Commission and City staff worked to create a mission
statement at the December 15, 2015 meeting. That mission statement that was create
was " Otsego Parks and Recreation, through its employees and volunteers, is committed
to providing quality and innovative services, parks, and programs to its residents and
visitors."
Using this statement, the next step in the process is to create long and short term goals
for the department. These goals will be used throughout the year to measure how
efficient the department is in delivering services to its participants. Staff is
recommending that the goals be broken down into five categories: 1) Recreation 2)
Parks 3) Senior Center 4) Prairie Center 5) Long Term Goals. Below are some goal
ideas that staff have generated.
1) Recreation
a. Create a recreation program feedback form both on-line and paper.
b. Strengthen Community Image
c. Maximize financial efficiency and ensure contractual compliance
2) Parks
a. Inventory and update park assets into the GIS software.
b. Establish a uniform signage system
c. Apply for the Outdoor Recreation Grant through the DNR for Norin
Landing
3) Senior Center
a. Create more opportunities to participate through programs and events
b. Identify a system to recruit seniors and advertise programs
4) Prairie Center
a. Define a mission statement for the facility
b. Promote opportunities and assets
5) Long Term Goals
a. Community survey to gauge the effectiveness of Parks and Recreation
services
b. Enhance the City's arts, cultural, and historical assets
At the January Parks and Recreation Commission meeting staff is recommending that
commissioners and staff review the current list of goals. Once reviewed, commissioners
will recommend a list of goals to the Council.
