04-08-09 PROTSEGO PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING OTSEGO CITY HALL APRIL 8, 2009 7:00 PM 1. Call to Order. Chair Kumar called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM Roll call: Chair Beverly Kumar and Commissioners Krista Bean, Kathy Roberts, Mike Brumm, Susan Krekelberg, Peter Torresani, Rose Cassady and Duane Lauseng. Council: Mayor Jessica Stockamp and Councilmember Mark Thorsted. Staff: Brad Belair, Public Works Supervisor and Sandy Lindenfelser, Special Licensing 2. Consider agenda approval. Commissioner Bean motioned to approve agenda as amended. Seconded by Commissioner Krekellberg. All in favor. Motion carried 3. Consider the following minutes: 3.1. March 11, 2009 Regular Meeting Minutes. Commissioner Krekellberg motioned to approve minutes as amended. Seconded by Commissioner Bean. All in favor. Motion carried. 4. Open Forum: No one was present. 5. Public Works Update. 5.1. Soccer Fields. Brad updated that the Soccer club is using fields. Brad is working with Steve Zoubek of the Soccer Association. They will try to fit 3 practice fields in to the North of City Hall and 2 in the back of City Hall. Brad gave Zoubek designs from Dan Licht. Commissioner Bean asked if soccer fields will be converted from practice fields to regular size fields at a later time. Commissioner Torresani was concerned about soccer balls being kicked onto 90 th Street and Nashua Avenue noting the size of the practice fields as being 40 — 45 yards. Brad commented that at this time he is not concerned since the kids are aiming at the nets. Commissioners discussed how many kids using these fields are from Otsego. 176 kids have Otsego addresses. Deputies will be asked to keep an eye on fields. Brad will keep an eye on the wear and tear of fields to see if they need to change direction of practice fields as they go along. 6. New Business. 6.1. Park & Rec Website Update. Chair Kumar stated that this was supposed to be moved to discuss after the meeting. last meeting. 6.2. Pride in our Parks. Commission members discussed how the name Pride in our Parks was agreed upon. Mayor Stockamp stated that it was on the consent agenda for the City Council Meeting and was approved. A. Woman of Today. Kelly Friesen from the Women of Today sent Beverly an email stating she will be the contact person from now on. B. Amy Brumm-Girl Scouts Amy Brumm of the Girl Scouts has indicated an interest in Pride in our Parks. Brad will get her an information packet. 7. Other. Commissioners discussed Easter Egg Hunt and what changes need to be made. Find out Community Ed's plan so everyone is on the same page. Discussed more signage for day of event so people are better award of where they should go — inside and outside of the building. Agreed that they should publish in the paper that kids should bring a basket to put their eggs in. Discussion re: setting up a workshop date. No date has been set. Discussed setting up Subcommittees or task forces to help decide what the commission wants to do. Brad brought up again for Commission members to let Staff know if there is anything anyone wants to have put on the agenda. Mayor Stockamp stated commission members are to email or contact Sandy with any agenda items. Chair Kumar brought up Thank You notes for those who helped or donated items for the Egg Hunt. Women of Today and Cub Scouts will be thanked at the City Council Meeting Monday April 13th, 2009. Vandalizing in Zimmer Park. Brad discussed better drainage for this park. Brad said improvements are needed. Porta potties will be in the parks by the first of May. 8. Up ate on City Council actions by Mayor Stockamp. Mayor Stockamp updated on reconstruction of the walking path around Otsego Elementary. The Eagle Classic Family Fun Walk is going to be May 2nd@ 9: 00 (from 9: 00 to 11: 00) at Otsego Elementary. The Commission is requesting the City to provide the amount of mileage on the pathways around the school. Mayor Stockamp will bring this up to City Council at the April 13 th Council meeting. Hakanson-Anderson will put together mile tracker maps if we are able to set aside funds in the grant for printing and upon City Council approval. Scouts have volunteered to handout maps at the walk. 9. Adjourn by 10 PM. Commissioner Bean motioned to adjourn. Seconded by Commissioner Torresani. All in favor. Motion carried. Adjourned at 8:14PM.
