The City of Otsego had been in discussions with Chris and Katherine Wilson regarding
acquisition of approximately 25 acres of their property at the northeast corner of Odean
Avenue and 85th Street for park purposes. The City Council had directed that
acquisition of the Wilson property would be contingent upon also acquiring a 2.5 acre
parcel at the northwest corner of the Wilson property that would allow for access from
Odean Avenue aligned with 87th Street. The City learned that the 2.5 acre parcel had
been acquired by Kevin and Beth Ramsey before the City could make an offer.
City staff recently met with the Ramseys to discuss a proposal made by the Wilsons to
swap land to allow the City to gain access off of Odean Avenue at 87th Street. City staff
said that the City would not pursue the acquisition of an access to Odean Avenue if the
Ramseys are not willing sellers. City staff said that any money paid to acquire a portion
of the Ramseys' parcel would reduce the amount the City would pay to acquire the
Wilson property per the City Council's direction.
The Ramseys have subsequently contacted City staff that they intend to build a house
on the property in the spring and are not interested in an agreement that would allow
the City to acquire the land necessary to for access to Odean Avenue at 87th Street.
No further action regarding acquisition of the Wilson property is anticipated.
