CITY OF OTSEGO
COUNTY OF WRIGHT, MINNESOTA
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING APPLICATION FOR
FEDERAL FUNDS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE
INTERSECTION OF MINNESOTA STATE HIGHWAY 101 AND
WRIGHT COUNTY HIGHWAY 39
WHEREAS, the City of Otsego, Minnesota and the
County of Wright, Minnesota are experiencing rapid
population growth; and,
WHEREAS, said growth is outpacing the capacity of
local highways, reducing the safety of travelers
and disturbing the economic health of the region;
and,
WHEREAS, a recently completed Inter -Regional
Corridor (IRC) study of Highway 101 by the
Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) and
the affected local governments recommended that
State Highway 101 be converted from an expressway
to a highway; and
WHEREAS, the City of Otsego, Minnesota and the
County of Wright, Minnesota have a unique
opportunity to improve the intersection of State
Highway 101 and County Road 39 from an expressway
to a freeway because a developer has offered to
dedicate for free much of the right-of-way
necessary for the improvement; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Otsego, Minnesota's
transportation plan supports the conversion of the
above intersection from an expressway to a freeway.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF OTSEGO, MINNESOTA:
1. The City of Otsego charges staff to seek out
all sources of funding for this important safety
improvement, and to make application for any
available federal funds.
