MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 12, 2001 - 7:00 PM
1. Chair Mike Day will call meeting to order.
Mike Day called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Roll Call:
Park & Recreation Commission: Mike Day, Tom Constant, Terry
Long, and Jim Gaikowski.
Absent: Tony Faust, Pauline Nelson, & Tom.Baillargeon.
Councilmembers: None.
City Staff: City Administrator Mike Robertson.
Tony Faust Resignation - Administrator Robertson said that he
received a letter from Tony Faust announcing his immediate
resignation from the Commission due to time constraints.
_Approval of Minutes - Administrator Robertson said that he had
not received the minutes for the last meeting. Commissioner Day
noted that Commissioner Nelson took the minutes for the last
meeting. Robertson said he would call her.
Discussion of Park Area Search - Administrator Robertson stated
the Council had delayed action on the Park & Trail plan to ask
the Commission to look at long range acquisition of land for
parks in the southwest part of the city. After discussion
Commissioner Constant, seconded by Commissioner Gaikowski, moved
to not seek to purchase park land in the southwest for the
following reasons;
1. Not knowing where the homes will be built it is difficult to
choose a park area. 2. Almost all of the park funds have come
from construction in the northeast part of town and the funds
should be spent closer to their source. 3. The type of park
should be determined before land is sought. Motion carried 4-0.
Commissioners noted that if a specific piece of land is proposed
they would be happy to take a look at it. They also noted that
if the purchase did not involve park funds they would be
supportive.
Administrator Robertson Update - Robertson updated Commissioners
on the recent events. Commissioners asked Robertson to have the
Public Works department install the new spring toys in the
playground area of Otsego Prairie Park.
Haunted House Planning - Commissioners discussed plans for the
Haunted House in October, including advertising and the
sponsorship of various rooms.
Adjournment - Commissioner Constant, seconded by Commissioner
Gaikowski, mov d to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. Carried 5-0.
