MEETING MINUTES
AUGUST 130, 2003 - 7:00 PM
1. Call to order. Chair Bartheld called the meeting to
order at 7:00 p.m.
Roll Call:
Park & Recreation Commission: Chair Jeff Bartheld, Pauline
Nelson, Mark Thorstad, Peter Torresani, and Rose Cassady.
Absent: Terry Long, Jessica Stockamp, Jim Gaikowski.
Councilmembers: CM Scharber and CM Struthers.
Staff: City Administrator Mike Robertson
Approval of July 9, 2003 Minutes - Commissioner Torresani,
seconded by Commissioner Cassady, moved to approve the July
9, 2003 minutes. Carried 5-0.
City Update - CM Scharber and CM Struthers updated
Commissioners on Council actions. Robertson updated
Commissioners on the company who will be doing the electric
work in Prairie Park.
Festival - Commissioners asked Robertson to provide 500-700
copies of park plan maps for them to hand out from their
booth at the festival. They also asked to have a City map
with current park locations set up on a story board for
viewing.
Ice Rink - Commissioner Torresani asked about the ice rink.
Chair Bartheld stated that the ice rink had not been able to
be established the last two years due to warm weather. He
noted that it takes 4-6 weeks of continuous cold weather in
November and December to establish a rink. After further
discussion, Commissioner Torresani moved, seconded by
Commissioner Cassady, to spend up to $500 purchasing enough
ag lime to cover the ice rink to prevent weed growth and
help it maintain ice easier. Carried 5-0.
Haunted House - Commissioners reviewed plans for the Haunted
House. Chair Bartheld reminded Commissioners that work
would begin on initial setup on Wednesday, September 3, 2003
and asked Robertson to have the building cleaned out by
Labor Day.
Adjournment - Commissioner Cassady, seconded by Commissioner
Torresani, moved to adjourn at 8:08 p.m. Carried 5-0.
