RECOMMENDATION:
The Public Works Subcommittee has reviewed quotes for purchase of chimney seals at the September
191h meeting. Sizes and quantity for the purchase of chimney seals is based on staff recommendations.
ESS Brothers and Son's is the recommended supplier based on low quote.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
During the 2012 sanitary sewer inspections 85 manholes were found with seal leaks. These leaks result
in reduction of collection and facility capacities and increased system maintenance.
The installation of internal chimney seals will prevent the inflow and infiltration of water and
surrounding material from entering the sanitary system. Seal leaks add unaccounted water and
washings to the collection system and treatment facilities creating unnecessary treatment and repair
costs. Chimney Seals prevent inflow and infiltration of water and surrounding material from entering
the sanitary system.
Quotes were received and reviewed by staff. The Public Works Subcommittee reviewed purchase of
chimney seals at the September 19, 2012 meeting. ESS Brothers and Son's is the recommended supplier
based on low quote of material costs.
Financing for material and installation is budgeted through sewer operations fund.
