The Parks and Recreations Department currently maintains sly parks and currently a Land Pride is being
used as the wide area rower. This mower is pulled behind a John Deere tractor and along with the trim
mowers Is used to mow all the parks in the city. Because the current wide area mower is pulled, the
driver cannot see where he is going and where the mower deck Is at the same time. This configuration
also males it difficult to mow around obstacles and trees. A new front and side mounted mower w uld
allow for the driver to see where be is going and see the rowing decks at the same time. Furthermore,
a wide area mower would allow for the city to mow the boulevards which are mostly located either
going to or from parks that need to be mowed. The City currently contracts the boulevard mowing for
a pproxirateIV $15,000 a gear, based o n a second review of the costs, if the City would tale over the
boulevard m wiiing the City would save an estimated $7,000 per year using the wide area rower.
The wide area mower City Staff is recommending is the Toro Groundsmaster 4010. The Toro's features
and capabilities best meet the iter' current and projected mowing needs.
The quoted price of $64,864.60 is below the price of the state contract. The Capital Improvement Plan
has a wide area mower purchase for 2 1 project# PW -12-104, city staff is making this request for a
December purchase because the EPA .mandated Tier 4 emission engine compliance goes into effect in
2013 and may increase the cost of a similar machine 8-10%.
