5-10 16 Otsego Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting
Present: Toni Seroshek, Zonja Matushenko, Chris Wilson, Gail Anderson
Mayor Jessica Stockamp.
Meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm. Agenda was changed to include a
request Gail passed on from Connie that we fill the shelves in the first conference
room in Prairie Center if we had appropriate materials.
Book Binding & Picture Revision
Jessica presented the revised picture center and the new covers and binding for
The Family Farm Years, a history of Otsego from 1880-1910. We are very pleased
with Lisa Fahay’s work and will acknowledge the generous gift of her efforts.
Native American history in the Otsego Area:
Chris has been in contact with Mr. Cole who is willing to give us some references
on his research on Native Americans in this area. Chris will let him know we need
this material by the next meeting, June 21. Chris will contact the Wright County
History Center to ask if we can get pictures of the artifacts Ralph Lahn donated to
them which he had collected over the years on his farm. Toni will check with the
Minnesota Historical Society for appropriate photos we might copy, Dakota and
Ojibway. Toni will check on the source of the map of the materials she got from
Wright County History Center of migratory routes of Native Americans in
Minnesota.
Otsego Prairie Fest
We discussed what we want to present at the Prairie Fest on the subject of Native
American history in the Otsego area. We are envisioning a banner which might
have two maps (migratory tribal routes, map of area with battle sites and dates),
pictures and text about everyday life of Native Americans in this area roughly in
the time span of 150 years ago. We discussed options for the Scouts to be
involved with drying food or play activities or making a travois which was used to
as a carrying sled for infants or toddlers when traveling or for other uses. Chris
will check on tepee building.

Park Signs
All materials were previously sent to Dan or to Kim, the graphic designer. We
acknowledged there are upcoming two new parks, the Northwood and another
one, which need history matching.
Next meeting will be on a different date, June 21, at 6pm. This is a change of the
usual meeting date and time, so please note.
We then adjourned at 8:28pm and took materials to the first conference room to
place in the shelving there.
