Adopt the attached Website Link Policy.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The City currently does not have a formal policy for links displayed on the City website. The City Clerk
has drafted the attached policy outlining the criteria for allowed and not allowed links and also outlining
the process of a request. Adopting such a policy is recommended providing consistency.
The Administrative Subcommittee reviewed the policy at the June 15 meeting and recommended
approval.

Website Link Policy
The primary purpose of the City's website is to provide convenient and efficient access to information
about the City's government, services, programs and amenities. The City website may provide links to
websites outside the City's website that also serve this purpose. The City is not responsible for and does
not endorse the information on any linked website unless the City's website states otherwise. The City
of,Otsego's website is for informational purposes only. It is not intended to be a venue for
advertisements or endorsements.
It is the City's policy to limit links only to:
a. Government sites, non-profit organizations or academic institution sites that provide
information relevant to programs and services provided by the City of Otsego.
b. Organizations with some relationship to the City; including but not limited to; organizations
contracting with the City, and sponsoring or participating in City activities or programs.
C. The publication designation as the City's official newspaper.
d. Generally recognized community organizations.
e. Commercial entities that provide information or services that enhance the usability of the City's
website for the visitors and/or residents.
The City will not provide links to external sites that:
a. Political organizations or candidates for local, state, or federal offices.
b. Market or sell products or services.
C. Promote illegal activities.
d. Individual or personal home pages.
The process to request a link on the City's website must be made in writing to the City Clerk. The
request shall include the organization's website address and brief background of the organization. The
information will then be verified that it meets the criteria above.
In addition, the City reserves the right, at any time, without notice, to deny a link that does not meet the
criteria above or to discontinue an external link to any website that provides false, slanderous, illegal or
incorrect information.
