RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of change order #1 which is for $1,780 for site prep and material removal
for the Northwood trail landscaping along 72"d Street.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The City Council at their September 26th, 2016 meeting approved a motion to have JT Construction
install daylilies along the trail that borders 72"d Street which is located south of Northwood Park. In the
Request For Action, staff reported that the area where the plantings were proposed was approximately
525 feet long and that City Staff would remove 4" of existing material for site prep for the Daylily
installation. The Council voted unanimously to move forward with the installation of Daylilies along the
area between the trail and 72"d Street south of Northwood Park.
City Staff started the process of removing the 4" of material along the trial on October 3, 2016. During
the removal, Staff quickly realized that the time it would take to remove the material with the
equipment staff had access to would require far more time than initially estimated. Staff is now
recommending that a change order for $1,780 be added to JT Construction's initial quote of $3,992.00
which would bring the total for the project to $5,772. Currently with the Council approved change
orders, the budget for Northwood Park once everything is complete is projected to be $776,351.72
which is still well within the parameters of the 2016 CIP budgeted amount of $792,469. With the
proposed change order JT Construction would be responsible for the excavating and removal of the
material trail between the trial and 72"d Street.
