RE: Fundraiser for the Out of Darkness Foundation
Background:
On July 18, 2012 Justin Dedrick put on the 1St annual skate park contest to raise money
for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention Out of Darkness Foundation. That
contest was very successful and raised much needed money for the foundation. The
group did a commendable job before, during and after the event ensuring the park was
cleaned up and the park rules were followed.
The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention Out of Darkness Foundation is an
organization that puts on walks throughout the country to help increase the
understanding of suicide and promote educational programs to help prevent suicide.
Justin's group is again asking to have access to the Skate Park and Prairie Park Shelter
and to have the shelter fees waived. During their presentation to the Parks and
Recreation Commission last year, the Commission granted their request to have the
entire fee waived.
Action Requested:
Motion to allow Justin Dedrick to again host his skate contest in the Prairie Park Skate
Park and to waive the shelter fee for the event which will be held on Thursday, July
18th, 2013.

RE: Tour of the Otsego Park System and Flagship Recreation Tour
Background:
At the March Parks and Recreation Commission meeting it was discussed to have the
Parks and Recreation Commission and City Staff do a tour of the park system n Otsego.
With the weather warming up May maybe a good time to schedule the tour. The
purpose of the tour is to go over work that was done last year, review work to be done
this year, and to review potential future projects and improvements.
Flagship Recreation has invited representatives from The City of Otsego on a plant tour
of landscape structures in Delano. Flagship Recreation is a playground manufacturer
based in Minnesota. In addition to the tour of the manufacturing plant, they offer
educational sessions on safety and maintenance of playgrounds, natural play and
inclusive play. They also can do design sessions or share what they see as the latest
trends in playgrounds. Many municipalities have taken this tour and find it to be both
informative and entertaining.
Roll for the Soul -
2012
Roll for the Soul 2012 was a big success.
Over 125 people came out to the park for the
skateboard contest and BBQ to fundraise in
memory of Markus Cullinan on his birthday.
The money raised went to The American
Foundation for Suicide Preventions Out of the
Darkness Community Walk.
