ITEM 5.2ITEM 5.2 0 L17V .�F tse a MINNESOTA TO: Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Ross Demant, Parks and Recreation Manager DATE: January 12, 2017 RE: Spring/ Summer Program Guide 2017 Background: Staff are currently working on the 2016 Spring/ Summer Program Guide. The Parks and Recreation Commission has provided feedback and comments on the upcoming parks and recreation programs and events. Below is an outline of the programs and a summary of information. Also for 2017, the City is changing the format of the View' newsletter which will allow for color photos and a change in style. Some new programs for 2016: Cheerleading Camp o This camp will focus on cheers and cheerleading movement o Participants will: ■ Be given pompoms and a uniform • Be able to cheer at the Parks and Recreation Flag Football games Touch a Truck o Free event where participants come down and get to interact with the fire, police, and City departments o Have a chance to climb into various equipment o Helicopter o Tuesday, June 6tn 0 6-8:30 o Prairie Park Paws in the Park o Programs specifically designed for the Dog park ■ Hoppin Hounds Easter Hunt Egg Hunt at the dog park and pictures with the bunny after the Easter Day event is complete ■ Howlin Holloween Costume contest Misc. Events ■ Santa Paws Picture taken with Santa Misc. Events Spring Craft Fair o April 29 0 9-3pm Grand Opening of Northwood Park o May 18th 0 6-7:30pm Summer Camps (Wednesdays 9 -noon; June 20, July 11, July 25, August 8) o Warrior Boot Camp o Superheroes o Scavenger Hunt o Wet and Wild Returning Programs: My Little Library Story Time o Story times that rotate through the parks system six times throughout the summer on Thursdays and June -Aug on Wenesdays at Prairie Park Youth Golf o Partnering with Riverwood National o Provide instruction on swings mechanics and etiquette o Tuesdays starting in July Taekwondo o Partnering with world Taekwondo Academy of Rogers o Build Discipline, confidence, and self defense o Tuesday, June -July T -ball o Tuesday June 6 -July 25 SOAR Theater Production o This program is a partnership with the City of Otsego and St. Michael, Otsego, Albertville, and Rogers (SOAR) regional arts. o The program will consist of four- one act plays which will take place over two days, each day will consist of two of the one act plays totaling approximately 1 hour for both. o The dates will be: ■ June 28 o Showtime will start at 7:30 p.m. o Plays will take place in Prairie Park 2 Entertainment in the Park o Starting June 13 o Staff will bring a complete list of entertainers to the January 17th meeting Archery Class o Partnering again with Archery Country o June 15 -July 13 Thursdays Soccer Camp o Mon & Weds o June 12 -July 12/ July 17 -August 9 Multi Sport Camp o Mon & Weds o July 17 -August 9
