ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? No IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED? No BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION: Attached are plans for the 2017 Street Maintenance Project. This project includes, seal coating, fog sealing, and striping. In 2016 we had some issues with streets that received a fog seal only. The fog seal material remained tacky much longer than anticipated (or previously observed) and as a result the fresh crack filling material started to pull out of some of the cracks along Maciver Avenue. The plan was changed to discontinue any fog sealing operations and revisit future street maintenance. The street maintenance plan has been revised to eliminate most fog seal only operations but continue with applying a fog seal at the time of the seal coat as well as at year 2 of new streets. Also, crack filling will be done the year prior to applying the sealcoat/fog seal. Estimated costs for these portions of the 2017 Street Maintenance Project total $238,857 while the CIP estimated $265,768. The crack filling and patching portions of the project have a budget of $135,000 within the CIP, and will be administered under separate contracts and/or be completed by City Public Works staff.
