Recommend the hiring of the following employee as Recreation Program Assistant:

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Recreation Program Assistant position is used to help run a class when the class level reaches a
certain point. Our starting wage for a new Recreation Assistant is $7.75, however due to the changes in
the minimum wage it is scaled depending on the age of the individual.
This recommended employee's mother currently works as a Recreation Leader for the City and she may
at times work with her mother on a related program or event. Section 3-7.3 of the City of Otsego's
Employee Manual states that an immediate family member of an employee may be considered for
employment based solely on the individuals' qualifications for vacant positions. The section goes on to
state that the immediate family member may not have administrative or supervisory control over the
potential hire. Furthermore, the employee may not have any authority in assigning, evaluating,
transferring, disciplining, or promoting the potential employee. In this case, the recommended
employee's mother will at no time fall under any of these categories while working on a similar program
or event.
