ITEM 5.2ITEM 5.2 I) 0 tseF CITY O MISOTA TO: Otsego Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Ross Demant, Parks and Recreation Director DATE: March 15, 2017 RE: Northwood Park Review Background: A baseball field with a backstop, dugouts, and benches was included in the design of and construction of Northwood Park. The infield was built to accommodate 65' bases and the outfield was constructed to be approximately 200 feet. Turf grass was planted and was able to become established by the end of growing season last year. There is potential for the baseball field to be available for play starting spring 2017. Currently, the City has six baseball fields within the City that are available for the athletic associations to use and are charged a user fee. The fields at Prairie Park and Zimmer Farm Park "Billette Field" can be used for both practices and games; however the field at Frankfort Park can only be used for practices due to the limited parking options. Billette Field at Zimmer Farm Park has a backstop, dugouts, and benches. Both Northwood Park and Billette Field are located in neighborhoods, and both have parking lots with at least 20 parking stalls. Staff is recommending that Northwood Park baseball field be added into the current field inventory for 2017. Staff has scheduled a field scheduling meeting with the athletic associations for the end of March. If approved, staff would add Northwood Park baseball field into the 2017 field inventory with restrictions that is only use for u12 or younger due to the size of the outfield. Requested Action: Staff is requesting that the Parks and Recreation Commission review the material included in this memo and provide a recommendation regarding adding Northwood Park baseball field into the existing inventory of fields that are assigned to the athletic associations for baseball and softball.
