RECOMMENDATION:
The Public Works Subcommittee reviewed Well 8 inspection findings with staff at the March 15th
meeting and recommended to proceeding with repairs.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Well #8 located on Randolph Ave serving the East Public Water System was pulled for routine inspection
and the aquifer videoed to provide assessment of the equipment and well status for future maintenance
and improvement determinations.
Aquifer:
The cavern ceiling of this Mount Simon aquifer is at a depth of 377 feet with a drilled base at 437 feet;
the current aquifer depth is 409 feet indicating sand sluffing of about 28 feet from the original drilling.
The remaining cavern is 32 feet of water access. Reviewing the 2008 video sand sluffing created a base
at 425 feet revealing about 16 feet of sand has filled the cavern since then.
Discussions with multiple contractors with support of strong static -pumping levels and recovery time,
consistent specific capacities, the pump depth setting and the remaining aquifer cavern, staff agrees the
aquifer does not require sand removed at this time. Financing will be identified in the Capital
Improvement Plan for sand removal during the 2025 inspection based on video findings.
Equipment:
The submersible pump was pull and reviewed. The motor checks out electrically and will be maintained.
The pump has met its useful life and is recommended be replaced for the next 8-10 year cycle. Quotes
were received from for pump replacement, mobilization, installation, power chord replacement and
standard replaceable items. Staff is providing recommendation for Traut wells to proceed with repairs
with estimate of $15540.00 plus freight charges.
Staff updated the Public Works Subcommittee at the March 15th meeting with findings from Well 8 and
recommended continuing based on recommendations due to the critical nature of the equipment and
maintaining redundancy within the system.
