Staff recommends having Central MN Dust Control complete the 2017 dust control application to specified
gravel roads.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Each year, the City contracts for the application of dust control chemicals to the most heavily traveled
gravel roads in the city. In addition to that, 500' sections are also treated upon request from residents if
they agree to pay for that portion of the application. For 2017, we are recommending full-length
applications to McAllister Ave., 83 d Street and 60th Street which is similar to what we have done in prior
years. We have also received three private requests which have been paid in full. 500' sections of 62nd
Street, 96th Street and Kadler Ave. are being recommended for application. The Parks and Recreation
Department has also requested to have approximately 1,300' of dust control chemicals applied to the
soccer field drive which has also been accounted for in this year's total amounts.
The 2017 dust control project is estimated at 28,473 lineal feet of gravel roads/parking lot to be treated
with approximately 15,375 gallons of chemical. Staff has requested quotes from Central MN Dust Control
and Envirotech Services and received quotes of $.91 and $1.04 per gallon respectively. Total estimated
costs were $13,991.25 from Central MN Dust Control and $15,990 from Envirotech Services.
Staff is recommending that we use Central MN Dust Control for the 2017 dust control project at an
estimated cost of $13,991.25. This amount is under the amount of $16,229 that was budgeted for 2017.
The Public Works Subcommittee was presented with this information at its April 19th meeting and
recommended that it be placed on consent agenda.
