RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the purchase of a new replacement submersible pump with bladeless impeller at the
Main Lift Station for the East Collection System. The purchase was discussed at the April Public Works
Subcommittee with recommendation of pursuing as the existing pump is no longer serviceable. The
purchase request has been submitted under the Emergency Management Act within purchase policy
requirements.

BACKGROUND/1 USTI F I CATI O N:
An emergency purchase of a submersible pump was completed for the Main East Collection System Lift
Station located at Quaday Avenue. The purchase was placed due to pump failure resulting from a seal leak
and motor submergence. The pump was installed in 2009 and has met its expected life cycle of age,
repairs and significant use. The equipment was reviewed for new and future force main requirements to
identify the best fit for the application including velocities, capacities, restrictive pressures and ability to
pass material. Two quotes were received ranging from $19,582.00 to $22,942.00. The manufacturer
representative was the low quote for the equipment. The pump is anticipated to arrive early June for
service.

Attached pleas find pump curves for the existing pumps and a variable speed curve for the existing pumps, both have
the system head curves plotted for the 8" forcemain and the 12" forcemain,
Also please find performance curves for the proposed new pump with the bladeless impeller, I only plotted the 12"
forcemain on these curves.
The cost for the new model, Fairbanks 4"D5433MVK, 40hp, 1750 rpm, Bladeless impeller sized for the design condition
of (700 gpm @ 106' tdh), $19,582. Lead time for this one would be the same, 4 — 6 weeks.
