City staff is recommending the City Council retroactively approve the quote from E.H. Renner & Sons for
the purchase and installation of equipment at Well No. 5.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
An emergency purchase for West Public Water System Well 5 Pump was completed on Tuesday July 18th.
The equipment was pulled due to multiple ground faults indicating electrical failures. While the pump was
out, a significant water leak within a residential home under construction occurred, causing added strain to
the system. The combination of pump failure, residential leak and high summer demand created an
immediate need for replacement. The pump was scheduled for inspection and replacement in 2018 with
the installation and startup conducted 2004 it has met useful life expectancies. Salvageable parts will be
maintained as spare equipment.

The price difference between 6" and 8" drop pipe is about $6,000 however you will see the pump and
motor not working as hard to compensate for head loss. The pump would run more effiently on
the pump curve and would help the pump with less wear. Also helping the motor not having to work as
hard on a pump that is dragging.
