6-13-17 Otsego Heritage Preservation Commission
Present: Commissioners: Zonja Matushenko, Chris Wilson, Toni Seroshek, Gail
Anderson; Jessica Stockamp, Mayor.
Meeting was called to order at 7:08. There were no changes to the agenda
for tonight. Minutes of the last meeting were approved.
Festival canvas background for picture taking by us of families or groups of
Festival attendees was brought by Chris and measured and cut at 10' x 5'. Chris
will paint some or all of the cartoons she previously drew as symbols of Otsego
such as the school, the water towers, the old school, etc. Then we will take
pictures of individuals in front of this background and it will identify the occasion
as Otsego Prairie Festival 2017. We will also try to interest individuals in
answering some basic questions like What brought you to Otsego? What is your
favorite memory about Otsego? What do you like best about Otsego? How long
has your family been in Otsego? We will make copies of history handout to give
away at the Festival.
Jessica states that she consulted the City Attorney and he recommended
against our recruiting Jim Stockamp for the OH PC because of a potential conflict
of interest with Jessica serving as our liaison with the City Council. We were very
disappointed but will thank Jim for his interest.
Chris got a notebook with clear sleeves to put articles re Otsego once or
more a month which have been printed in the Elk River Star News or elsewhere.
She will clip the most relevant new stories as living history.
SHPO — State Heritage Preservation Organization. The office which leads
Historic Preservation organizations in the state was housed with at/with the
Minnesota History Center but has been re assigned to operate under the auspices
of the State Executive Branch out of the Governor's office.
Gail will get some basic information from some folks who have lived in
Otsego in the past or currently so we can put some examples of their stories in
the Otsego View to model what we might want for the Prairie Festival.
None of the Commissioners have heard anything further about the AVID
project of kids interviewing seniors in congregate living and recording their
responses.
Meeting was' adjourned at Bpm.
Gail Anderson, Recorder
