ITEM 3.6 Acting Pay adjustmentt O tSITY Ce F o MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT INFORMATION Request for City Council Action ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT REQUESTOR: MEETING DATE: Administration City Administrator/ Finance Director Flaherty October 23, 2017 PRESENTER(s) REVIEWED BY: ITEM #: Consent Item mostly be completed by the Finance Director, with the exception of the accounts payable function. 3.6 AGENDA ITEM DETAILS RECOMMENDATION: City staff is recommending that the City Council approve an acting pay rate adjustment to the Utility Billing position. ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED? No No BACKG RO U N D/J USTI FI CATI O N : The City is currently undergoing a recruitment effort for the Accountant position, as that position became vacant as of October 18, 2017. During this recruitment effort, the duties of the Accountant position will mostly be completed by the Finance Director, with the exception of the accounts payable function. Utility Billing will be assigned these duties as she has experience completing these duties. This function will add a significant workload to her day-to-day functions and in accordance with the City's personnel policy merits an acting designation. My recommendation is that an acting pay rate adjustment is approved at Pay Grade 10, Step 1, which is the starting pay rate for the Accountant position. If approved, this pay rate adjustment would become effective October 30, 2017 and conclude with the completion of accounts payable training for the next Accountant.
