(763) 441-4414 Fax (763) 441-9163 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Adam Flaherty, City Administrator & Finance Director DATE: October 30, 2017 SUBJECT: Fire Protection Topics Meeting On Monday, the Council will review and discuss topics related to fire protection services within the City of Otsego. The intent of the meeting should be to receive information and provide the opportunity for discussion on the information presented. None of the items being presented require any action from the City Council. I have developed a brief outline of discussion topics below. Presentation of Elk River Fire Department Study A portion of the City of Otsego receives fire protection services from the Elk River Fire Department. In 2017, the City of Elk River contracted with Five Bugles Design to conduct a long- range strategic fire station master plan. Included within this master plan is the portion of Otsego covered by the Elk River Fire Department. Elk River Fire Chief John Cunningham and representatives from Five Bugles Design will be at the meeting to present an overview of the study and how it relates to Otsego. (763) 441-4414 Fax (763) 441-9163 Discussion on Recommendation from the Public Safety Commission The City Administrator will be passing along a formal recommendation from the Otsego Public Safety Commission. Otsego City Code Chapter 3, Section 3-5, Paragraph E states: The Public Safety Commission shall advise the City Council on matters related to the provision of fire protection services to Otsego by the Fire Departments the City is contracted with to receive these services. (Ordinance 2014-06). At the August 8, 2017 Public Safety Commission, a motion was made, seconded, and carried unanimously to make a recommendation to the City Council to conduct a master plan fire service study.
